Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in the fields of film, television and theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer from The Showtime program Soul Food. Following her marriage to her husband, she was referred to for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. Since childhood, Nikki Kodjoe was a natural actor. At the Maryland competition with high school students, she won the award for Best Actress. She earned her acting degree from the New York University after working at 'The Washington Ballet Company' as well as on stage. Contractor, who was born in Mumbai and was a resident of Nigeria over seven years was awash with trips and experiences in the world of culture at an early age. She went to boarding school between the ages of 7 until 9 in London. Later the family returned in Toronto (Canada) in Canada, where she lived for the rest of her childhood. Contractor studied and became a classical dancer in Toronto. In the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school that specializes in the arts) she studied the theatre and dance. Contractor took the decision to study acting seriously at age of 16 following almost 10 year of dance. After she had completed high school, she received a full Scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed an MA in Theatre, and also double majored with Psychology and Sociology. Following a semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the production Pericles at the world-class and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the role of lead. The production she appeared in received acclaim from Canadian reviewers. She was offered the opportunity to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory, which allows only eight males and four women to study traditional theater. Contractor eagerly accepted. Contractor got a confirmed place for the next season, and was offered the part as Hermia.
